At our wedding we used 40 foot long tables for our guests at the reception, instead of the traditional round tables. It made it feel more like a large family picnic which is exactly what we were going for. Because of the long tables, we decided to use classic white linens with long burlap table runners. And although we got married almost a year ago it’s fun to see that the burlap trend has continued for rustic weddings, especially for those in the fall. Since it is FINALLY starting to cool down and feel like fall here I thought we could talk BURLAP!! Burlap table runners, burlap wrapped bouquets, burlap and lace mason jars, and burlap and lace placemat centerpieces!

First things first, burlap table runners!  To make really long runners (like these pictured) you can purchase whole rolls of burlap from places like Joann’s fabric for a decent price (and don’t forget they have coupons online!). They will cut it to whatever length you want but it will be really wide, and so we found that cutting it into thirds makes for perfect width for table runners (about 15 inches wide). Your table lengths will determine what length you’d like them to cut the fabric.  If they are really long (like ours) it will be quite a task to cut it into thirds, but if you have a long table, you can lay it out in sections and use a tape measurer and chalk to mark the section. Make sure you have a good pair of scissors to cut the fabric since burlap can be kinda rough.  The good thing is, burlap is forgiving since it is already frayed, so if you are a little off, no one will notice!!

Next burlap wedding idea…burlap wrapped bouquets!

Burlap can be a great detail to use to wrap your bouquets with!  If they are first wrapped with floral wire, then it’s easy to wrap any material around!  You can either cut from burlap that you already have to the width of the stems, or you could also find burlap rolls (like these HERE) that is a great width for bouquets.  To secure the material around the stems, you can use twine and wrap it several times (we wrapped it pretty wide) and then tie at the end! 

Burlap can also be great as decor on mason jars for centerpieces!  We didn’t use these at our wedding, but if we had more time I bet we would have!  I actually created these for my ETSY shop because I thought they would make great vases or candle holders!  You can use any combination of lace, burlap, and twine to make beautiful creations!  Just use glue! Another option for your tables that provides a more romantic, shabby chic feel, are burlap and lace runners, or place mats!  You can always add lace to the ends of the burlap runners you cut, or cut smaller pieces into place mat size (mine are 12 inches square with 2 inch lace on either side).  The place mats can be used to go under centerpieces for round tables!

Just add a little lace trim to the ends of the burlap and you’re done!
