Maddie Dean Turns ONE

I can’t believe how fast time goes! Just a second ago she was tiny and couldn’t even lift her head, and now she is a bundle of energy, walking, talking, and exploring everything – I feel like I can’t keep up with her!

We had a sweet birthday party for her with family and friends a few weeks back and it was so much fun. She loved opening presents and eating her smash cake.

I wanted to share a few of the things we did for the party, in case any one is doing any party planning of their own!

Since it was at 11:00am, we had both sandwiches and donut holes, because…well…donut holes. We decided those could be dessert as well, so we skipped a cake/cupcakes and just had a little smash cake for M to “eat”.donut first birthday party

I wanted to stick with a simple party and not really have a theme, but it is just so fun to have a girl so I decided to go with a color theme of gold and peach. I made a gold polka dot “happy birthday” burlap banner (available in the ETSY SHOP) and a “#1” banner for her high chair with gold, peach, lace and glitter tassels (also available HERE).

For the rest of the decor, I just used mason jars as vases (surprise surprise) and got some peach and cream flowers from Trader Joes. If your looking for some mason jar vases in lace or gold glitter, I sell them too HERE!

Another thing I loved having was old pictures of M around, especially the monthly photos we took of her throughout the year. We hung them on a clothes line at the entrance so people could see how she had grown. I also made the ONE glitter letters as decor (also work as a great photo prop too!)

For the smash cake, since M hadn’t had any real sugar yet, I decided to go with a carrot cake and cream cheese frosting. I used the recipe from the Modern Day Homemaker blog and it turned out great. It didn’t get eaten much, but it looked cute!

For the cake topper it was so simple – I cut out letters to form “ONE” from gold glitter paper I got at Michaels and used a needle (actually my husband did this part!) to thread through the letters. Then we tied it to 2 skewers and used peach ribbon on the ends. That’s it!

The last fun detail I wanted to share was our photo backdrop! I am so glad we had this! It was an excuse to get photos of everyone at the party! We had a camera out on a table near the backdrop and people snapped photos! I didn’t come up with the idea for the backdrop (I found it on pinterest :)) but I followed the instructions from the Oh Happy Day blog.

We had such a good time (and I think M did too!:)) and we were so thankful to all our family and friends who came! We are so blessed.

New items on ETSY! Baby love

We’re so excited!! Last week we released some new items to our ETSY shop for our baby line! After having a girl, I learned about a ton of new “baby accessories” that exist and wanted to see what I could come up with on my own! I also started thinking about some fun things I could make for a first birthday party (crazy that our baby girl is closer to 1 than she is to a newborn already!). Here is a preview of some things we’ve released that we LOVE!

It’s our anniversary.

Hello friends. It’s been awhile. I feel like so much has happened in the last year or so, and I feel an update is necessary. As you know, we’ve been through a lot of change since the loveinamasonjar brand was started, nearly 3 years ago. I can’t believe it’s been 3 years.

loveinamasonjar.com

What started as a new beginning after leaving my career, moving, and getting married, turned into something to just “maintain” because I loved it, while working part-time and then full-time. Then came our most important job of all, becoming parents, and life as we knew it is completely changed! Needless to say, throughout it all, this blog and many of the creative things I love to do have become last on my list.

BUT I’m excited to say that things are changing again, and I will soon have more time to CREATE again! After going back to work part-time for a few months with the baby, we’ve decided to take the leap of faith and move to one income so I can stay home and be a mommy to our favorite little girl. And hopefully with that have more time (if she would take a nap!) to do all the things I have been wanting to try and tell you about it on the blog.

So…to celebrate our 3 year anniversary in February, we will be launching some new items in our ETSY shop, working on our brand, and hopefully will have more tutorials and blog posts as we go along. We have LOTS of new ideas that we’ve been working on (think baby related – surprise, surprise) 🙂 and hope to be able to share them soon. Thank you for supporting us on this journey! I’m so excited to move forward and see what this will bring!

Blessings!

Baby showers: Tea Party and Fancy Brunch

I’m learning that with a newborn (and probably children of any age!)  it’s hard to get anything done that takes time! But as I post now, I have a sleeping baby on my chest, so I’ll squeeze some blogging in when I can! I wanted to share a post about the baby showers that were hosted for us, because they were both so lovely!!

We were blessed with 2 showers, 1 was a family shower hosted by my moms and sisters, and the other a friends shower by my best friend. Both were just perfect and I couldn’t have asked for more!

Gender Neutral Baby Shower Tea Party

For the family shower we had a “tea party” theme. We had fruit and scones and coffee cake and of course coffee and tea. They decorated everything in tans and creams to keep it gender neutral and had beautiful flowers and mason jars. It was beautiful!!

 Fancy Baby Shower Brunch

For my other shower, it was at a beautiful resort outside for brunch near the pool. It was a smaller group, so we had a special little menu and cabana and were able to decorate the table. It was so pretty and fancy. I felt so pampered!!

Gender Neutral Rustic Baby Nursery

We’ve finally had time to finish up the nursery! Matt painted it way back in February, and we purchased some furniture shortly after, but until recently, we haven’t had a chance to put it together or do any decorating!

This past week I was able to sort through what we had previously kept in the room and do some organizing and decorating. And now – its complete! All we need is the baby!!

Since we don’t know the gender, we wanted to keep things neutral, and I love how it turned out! We went with tan linen fabric and white furniture, gray walls we brought in rustic elements which we have throughout our home.

Want to see some photos?!

We found the crib at a garage sale which started the white furniture trend. We purchased the dresser and night stand from Ikea and the rocking chair we had already in the house. Our neighbors bought us the awesome cushions for the rocking chair and it matches the curtains and crib skirt perfectly.

I couldn’t find curtains and bed linens that I liked (except for at Restoration Hardware – which is way too expensive!) so I purchased linen fabric at Joann’s and sewed some curtains and a crib skirt. I am not the best sewer, but I tried my best and I think they look okay!

We bought a big dresser because we have a small house with no closets, so the many drawers will come in handy. And with the changing pad, it becomes a changing table too!

The changing pad cover came from a sweet little ETSY shop called Fern Leslie Baby. I loved the grey and ivory stripe and it totally matches the linen fabric for the crib skirt and curtains!

We of course have lots of mason jars and crates in our house, so I incorporated those into the baby room “decor”. I made the sign (it still needs to be hung :)) but, it is painted on a grape crate I got awhile back and have just been waiting to make something with it!

On the other wall of the room, we will eventually put in a bench seat and a built-in possibly under the window, but for now, we just brought in our red flyer wagon and added some baskets for toys.

And that’s it! I’m so glad I was able to finish everything and do some decorating before baby arrives. Once we know if baby is a boy or girl, we will likely add in some more details (and maybe a custom baby name banner from our ETSY shop too! :))

Big news…

Well, we have been MIA lately, and I’m sorry! But we do have some big news to share! Can you tell what it is by this photo??

We are going to have a baby! Our very first! We found out over the holidays and enjoyed being able to share the news with our family and friends. My amazing sister-in-law was kind enough to take some announcement photos for us so I wanted to share with you. Didn’t she do a great job!?

Ps – if you want an burlap banner like the one above, it is for sale in our ETSY store!

We used these photos to send out an announcement card and we loved how it turned out! We used Zazzle for the design.

So… hopefully you don’t mind if the blog starts to include a few baby/pregnancy related things in the future! I’ve already decided I think I want to make the crib bedding (bedding is soooo expensive!!) and curtains for the nursery, so you may see some posts of my sewing trials in the near future!
